A Case of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

Abstract
|
|
|
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is relatively rare disease.
The authe: s observed a case of surgically corrected one.
A five month old male baby was admitted to the Department of Pediatrics in Chonnam University Hospital because of dyspnea and irritability.
One day before admission vomiting and irritability were suddenly noted, and he was treated at local pediatric. clinic under the impression of acute gastritis.
He was delivered at full to-m and had no specific past and family history.
At the time of admission there were no audible breath and peristaltic sounds on the left chest.
Chest x-ray showed a cystic in the left upper Iung field and increased homogenous density in the left lung field.
The diagnosis of hydropneumothorax was made by physical and chest x-ray findings, and chest tube was inserted.
But there was no drainage of any fluid or gas.
Despite of therapy dyspnea and irritability were aggra~rated.
On the second hospital day there appeared audible peristaltic sounds on the left lung field and chest x-ray revealed irregular gas pattern in the left lower lung.
The diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia was confirmed by upper G-I series, and the hernia was successfuly corrected by tra*nsthoracic approch.
The review of literature was made briefly.
